At Little Digmoor our Special Educational Needs and Disability Coordinator (SENDCo) is Miss J. Schofield.
As a result of discussions between staff, parents and the special needs coordinator, classroom teachers carefully plan and differentiate the curriculum to meet the requirements of all children with additional needs. This ensures that we provide an inclusive curriculum for all children.
Definition
The Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014 says that a child has special educational needs (SEN) if they have a learning difficulty which calls for special educational provision to be made or them.
A learning difficulty means that the child either:
- Has significantly greater difficulty in learning, than the majority of children of the same age.
- Has a disability, which either prevents or hinders the child from making use of the educational facilities which are provided for children of the same age in a mainstream school.
Special educational provision means educational provision, which is additional to, or different from, the provision made generally for children of the same age in a mainstream school. At Little Digmoor we are committed to meeting the special educational needs of pupils and ensuring that they make progress.
What are the arrangements for handling complaints from parents of children with SEND about the provision made at Little Digmoor?
At Little Digmoor, we operate an ‘open door’ policy. Parents and carers are encouraged to speak with the class teacher, as their first port of call, about any concerns they may have about their child. The class teacher will be able to discuss any additional support children are receiving. If you wish to discuss your child’s needs further, please contact Ms. Houldsworth (Headteacher) or Miss Schofield (our school SENDCo) who will be able to discuss next steps and how Little Digmoor can support children with SEND.
You can find a copy of our school’s complaints policy below. This includes complaints around SEND and Looked After Children (LAC). The policy can be downloaded by clicking on the tab below or alternatively you can request of a paper copy from the school office. Please follow the steps outlined in this policy if you would like to make a formal complaint. However, as mentioned above, discussions with the class teacher, Headteacher and/or SENDCo are encouraged in the first instance.
