Science
The teaching and learning of science links directly to our whole school curriculum intent.
We believe that Science at Little Digmoor will give our children a sense of awe and wonder about the ever-changing world that we live. It will raise curiosities, encouraging them to explore, question and work scientifically in order to discover answers or address misconceptions.
As children continue to grow and develop, science does too! Therefore, it is essential that our children are provided with knowledge and understanding of the world through disciplines of biology, physics and chemistry to learn how science has changed our lives and is vital to the world we live in.
Our science curriculum offers rich scientific language and encourages children to discuss, predict and explain scientific concepts clearly and precisely.
What is Developing Experts?
Developing Experts science scheme is an interactive, online platform that is aligned with the National Curriculum for ages 4-16 years.
The scheme itself provides clearly-sequenced and progressive units with week-by-week lesson support for each year group. It combines elements of understanding vocabulary, questioning, discussing and working scientifically which are accompanied by specialist videos from experts and people in industry to provide that link from the classroom to specialised careers. Teachers at Little Digmoor are encouraged to adapt activities, tasks and lessons to meet the needs of all its pupils.
The scheme provides many opportunities for teachers to assess the children’s learning throughout. This can be done through interactive quizzes within or at the end of lessons, written outcomes on worksheets that are provided or end of unit tests. There are also suggestion for further learning opportunities for the pupils who have progressed well as well as home learning.
