Physical Education (PE)
The teaching and learning of PE links directly to our whole school curriculum intent.
At Little Digmoor, health and physical fitness is central to our daily school life and wider curriculum. We encourage all children to lead healthy and active lifestyles. We provide a wide range of opportunities for children to participate in physical activity whilst developing their knowledge, skills and abilities through the 6 disciplines outlined by the national curriculum. These are:
-
Invasion games
-
Net and Wall games
-
Striking and Fielding
-
Gymnastics
-
Dance
-
Swimming
Our PE curriculum
We are currently using the PE Passport scheme of work for teaching and assessing PE in school. Specialist sports leaders have created the scheme in order for our teachers to deliver high quality physical education for all of our children.
The scheme consists of progressive lessons for each of the 6 disciplines from Early Years through to Year 6. Our teachers adapt the lessons according to the ability and needs of the children that they are teaching.
Sports teams and Events
It is our belief that all children should be provided with opportunities to partake in a range of sporting activities and events during their time at our school. We regularly attend sporting competitions for all age ranges to compete against other schools involved in SHARES across Skelmersdale throughout the year. These events include: football, basketball, dodgeball, tag rugby, swimming, netball and athletics.
We ensure an inclusive approach when it comes to PE and school sport. The children are also provided further opportunities to participate in other sporting events and fixtures outside of the national curriculum. Events such as ice-skating, wall-climbing, biking, trampolining, handball, orienteering and multi-skills give children a chance to try new activities.
Daily Mile
Every day the children are at school, we encourage them to work towards running a mile per day. This not only develops fitness and stamina but also builds determination and resilience.
